Program overview: A menu of exciting offerings

ProStart is the two-year, career-building program for high school students. Whether students are looking to enter the job market directly after graduating, or if they plan to attend college, a ProStart graduate makes a solid candidate for success.

ProStart students gain experience and recognition in several ways:

Classroom Experience

From culinary techniques to management skills, ProStart’s industry-driven curriculum provides real-world educational opportunities and builds practical skills and a foundation that will last a lifetime. Many university hospitality programs accept ProStart courses for college credit. Students not only learn from educators in the classroom, they also gain valuable hands-on experience by working at least 400 hours in the industry.

Mentored Work Experience

Then ProStart students put that learning to work on the job in qualified foodservice operations with industry professionals. In their mentored work experience, students receive mentor support, character development and real-world skills that give them a head start toward a career in the industry.

National ProStart Invitational

Students put their skills to the ultimate test in the National ProStart Invitational. This demanding culinary and management competition invites top students to represent their state, with winning teams competing for scholarships. Annually, more than $1 million in scholarships are awarded to the top five teams in both the culinary and management events.

ProStart National Certificate of Achievement

The ProStart National Certificate of Achievement is an industry-recognized certificate awarded to students who have completed the requirements of the ProStart program. To earn the ProStart National Certificate of Achievement, students complete the two-year ProStart program, pass two national exams, demonstrate mastery of foundational skills, and work 400 mentored hours. Students who receive the certificate are eligible for NRAEF scholarship opportunities and course credits at more than 75 of the country’s leading hospitality and culinary arts colleges and universities.

For more than a decade, ProStart has offered life-changing opportunities for students, providing much-needed direction for potential career paths and fostering countless success stories. With your help, the program will undoubtedly see even more positive experiences among its participants in the future.
